Donors

Know the person behind every gift.

Bring every donation, interaction, event, relationship, communication, pledge, and activity together in one complete view of each donor.

The problem

Stewardship should not require spreadsheet archaeology.

Gifts live in one tool. Event attendance lives in another. Notes live in inboxes. By the time someone asks who Elena is, staff are reconstructing a person from exports.

Who is Elena Calder?

Still reconstructing
Gift spreadsheet $250 · March 12
Event RSVPs Registered for the gala
Mailing list Opened the January appeal
Pledge workbook Building fund on schedule
Inbox notes Prefers handwritten thank-yous

Five tools. One person. The history is still in pieces.

Watch the path

Every gift connects.

A donation is not an isolated transaction. It belongs to a person, a campaign, a revenue category, and the next stewardship step.

  1. 01 Donation

A gift is received online, in person, or as a payment toward a pledge.

  2. 02 Donor

The gift is linked to the existing donor record without creating a duplicate.

  3. 03 Campaign

Campaign totals and progress toward goals update to reflect the gift.

  4. 04 Revenue category

The gift is assigned to the appropriate fund and reporting category.

  5. 05 Receipts & reporting

Receipts and reports draw from the same donation record.

What this module actually covers

FAQ

Questions teams actually ask

Does a gift create a second donor if they are already a member?

The point of Benevolate is one constituent. A gift should attach to the person you already have, including household members, rather than inventing a parallel donor file.

Can we see pledges and cash together?

Pledges, pledge payments, and one-time gifts belong on the same donor history so outstanding balances are not hiding in a second workbook.

How do we thank someone without losing the context?

Notes, tasks, and communications should hang off the donor record so the next staff member does not start from a blank page.
